ABOUT
STUDENTS OF  PROMISE

MISSION & HISTORY.

In 2007, under the bold leadership of Former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland and Retired Ohio State Senator C.J. Prentiss, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funding was allocated for the development and implementation of the Governor's Closing the Achievement Gap Initiative (CTAG) from which the Students of Promise Program was patterned and expanded.

Prior to budget realignments at the state level, the program was implemented in 33 high schools and 13 school districts across the state of Ohio. To date, various replications of the original CTAG model have been successfully implemented in a number of school districts throughout Ohio, including Cleveland, East Cleveland, Ashtabula, Lima, Youngstown and in the San Francisco Unified School District in California. Most recently in Cuyahoga County under the leadership of Cuyahoga County Councilman Pernel Jones Jr., Cuyahoga County Council and the Office of the County Executive, the Maple Heights, Garfield Heights, Cleveland Heights-University Heights and Warrensville Heights school districts have been awarded a grant to implement the Students of Promise program.

The current model has been replicated and enhanced by Bob Ivory, Program Director and one of the original Project Managers from the Governor's Office for Increasing the Graduation Rate.

The Students of Promise effort is made possible by Cuyahoga County Health and Human Service levy dollars in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Family & Children First Council and Cuyahoga County government.
